The thread of love

______________________________________

‘You mean to say now the school girls too have joined the lunacy; that’s outrageous, bhai!’

‘What can I say Saanvi, now it has become arduous to keep the valley composed. Look, I won’t be coming for Rakhi this time, hope you understand.’

‘You’re saying the only day I come to home for, to see you, to tie Rakhi in your wrist, is not gonna happen. But I understand the dilemma, SO………… I will come there.’

‘Are you out of your…… hello, hello. Damn.’

Two days later –
‘How’s Major Paavak’s condition doctor?’

‘The stone that hit his head yesterday has left him in state of comatose. All you can do is wait, and pray, General.’

‘But you must have s….’ His words were interrupted by a voice.

‘Praying is good, Sir. It has its own effects.’

‘And who are you, who allowed you to come here.’ He asked in annoyance.

‘Major Paavak’s sister, Sir!’ she took out a Rakhi from her bag and tied in Paavak’s wrist, followed by a prayer, ‘sneaking in was never an issue.’ She turned to them.

‘Look!’ Dr. indicated towards Paavak, ‘he’s coming into senses, unbelievable!’

'Indeed' General too was amazed.

'Like I said, praying is good. This ain't mere thread, but symbol of my prayers, my faith. He will be fine soon, to take on the traitors.' Saanvi held her brother's hand firmly, and proudly.

Anniversary

_______________________________________

The screeching sounds of curtains awakened Avish from sleep. The shiny rays of Sun pricked his eyes, to make sure he stays awake.

‘Happy Anniversary, dear husband!’ A jocund Mekhla stood beside the curtains.

‘Ungh! What? I am sleepy, lady. Don’t ruin my Sunday?’

‘Actually, I preferred ‘Happy Anniversary to you too, honey’.’ Her face sulked, ‘I have switched on the geyser. Breakfast will be ready after I return from temple.’

‘Yeah yeah got it, usual stuff. Accha listen, could you please hand me the robe, its chilly.’

‘Hmmm, gift in the guise of robe’ She mulled in excitement and opened the wardrobe. To her disappointment, it was just the robe, sans present.

‘Mekhla, robe please.’

She handed him the robe and turned, but something stopped her, ‘Oh! He wants to cuddle, to surprise, wanting me close; yay!’

She turned. He was there, busy reading the newspaper; her saree was stuck with the quilt. She released and exited the room, for temple.

‘Avish is so changed, of late. Where’s the love gone; no ‘love yous’, no messages, no cuddles, no … leave it.’ She returned home, indulged in her own thoughts.

But her hankerings again took a surge, when she saw a courier boy conversing with Avish, ‘Bought me an online gift haan! Surprise surprise.’ She slowly moved towards the entrance. But as adversity has it, the courier boy was there to enquire for another address.

Saddened, she prepared the breakfast, completed her chores and crashed on the sofa, exhausted, ‘I am gonna need a nap.’ She snoozed.

‘Hey Love! Wake up, Happy Anniversary.’ He planted a kiss on her lips.

She opened her eyes slowly, ‘I knew you remember, just teasing me. Now come here, take me in your arms.’

‘I will always take care of you, sweetheart.’

‘Everything feels so dreamy, but I love it.’

‘May be because it is a dream.’ He winked.

‘What…?’ She got up suddenly, alas, it was a dream. She looked around; it was still afternoon, but the dark clouds have made it look like evening, and she was alone.

She got up to make her tea. A teardrop rolled from her eye, flowed through her right cheek, hanging at the chin. A palm appeared suddenly, the tear fell on it and the palm closed. She turned, astonished.

‘My love’s every tear is priceless; I won’t let it fall like that’ Avish stood there with a warm smile, he opened his palm, it held a diamond ring, ‘Happy Anniversary, Mekh! Though this ring, this diamond.... aah, enough words, enough of the teasing, I just wanna say, I will always Love You.’

She covered her mouth, but the blush on her face was evident, few more tears rolled, this time of joyous.

They come closer, much closer, it was time for love, just like she had wanted it to be, for the anniversary.

UNCLE:

_______________________________________

‘Hey Baby! Come here come here come here.’ Taran filled the 18 month kid in his arms.

‘Thanks for showing up, Taran. See Suhani will be back by 6, so you have to look after Charmy...’ Tushar looked at the wall clock, ‘for 3 hrs.’

‘Done!’ Taran cuddled Charmy, ‘Now go, else you will be late for the meeting. And don’t worry about Charmy, her favorite Uncle is here, right baby.’ He closed the doors.

‘So honey!’ Taran pinched her cheeks. Charmy cackled and held Taran’s fingers.

‘Oh look at you, so beautiful………..and so innocent!’ His hands slowly slipped under her skirt and softly pinched her.

Charmy yelped but Taran didn’t stop. She tried to free herself from his grip.

‘Where are you going baby, our fun has just begun.’

Behind closed doors, a father & mother’s trust was shattered; Behind closed doors, a child’s innocence was crushed.

Dressing Up

__________________________________________________

‘Jack dear, this is the 7th dress! You better approve it; this trial is boring me now.’

‘Well, 7th time’s a charm, honey.’ Jack smiled, ‘And you know what, this outfit is perfect. You look lovely.’

‘Oh Jack!’ Rose saw her reflection in the mirror, ‘you’re one hell of a perfectionist.’ She moved forward to kiss him.

‘Careful darling, the crimson hasn't set yet.' He stopped her, 'have to say, the accessories on you looks so lively.’ Jack was elated.

‘Had to be, Leonardo & Kate were so supportive when we asked for their stuff. Let’s go.’ They left for the party.

Leonardo & Kate, the neighbors, complied silently, after Jack hammered them at evening tea. They now laid unconscious on the floor. Kate’s beautiful fingers now graced Rose's neck; her lips were torn to extract the blood for Rose’s lips. Leonardo’s nails were plucked up to give a glittering effect to Rose’s
hair, for the HALLOWEEN Party.

{Image: tumblr}

Jack was indeed, a perfectionist.

Love-In

_________________________________________________

‘Okay!’ Shayna took a deep breath, ‘No questions & no explanations, no issues & no tissues, no baggage &….; in short……’

‘No strings attached. Deal!’ Vikram smiled and pulled her closer, ‘This might be a live-in for you, girl; but I am gonna love you so much that you’ll never realize when this “pure live-in” will transmute into “PURE-LOVE”.’ He mused to himself.

Her lips & eyebrows curled up, ‘I can’t live without you, love; but just not to jitter you, I am taking things a step by step. And one day you’ll be all mine, only mine.’ Her mind shouted with glee.

Love, had made its way.

Parity starts at home

‘So Varini! Any plans to get settled or still the road runner?’

‘Wanderer!’ Varini chuckled. She dunked the chocolate cookie in her tea and took a bite, ‘you know na, that is our weekend thing. I am toh kab ka settled with my banking job.’

‘Well I meant marriage sweetheart’ She turned to Varini’s father, ‘there’s this boy in Mumbai. He works in a brokerage firm…’

‘Accha marriage’ Varini dunked another cookie, ‘dekh lenge auntie. There’s a long way till I reach 30’s.’ She grinned and left for balcony.

‘Ha Ha ha! She is the chatterer of the house.’

‘Really bhai sahib. But you must be serious now. You have brought her like a son, and a daughter is a daughter; you must start thinking about it.’

‘Behen ji, why would I nurture a daughter like a son. Isn’t it a bit illogical for you to say?’

‘Yes, but this working in MNC amid male colleagues; bike riding, that too 100+ kms. away from home. Pardon me but apne apni beti ko bahot dheel de rakkhi hai.’

‘You mean to say, she’s self dependent, rides bikes, goes to clubs, doesn’t hesitates in taking on the hooligans; this all is boyish trait as a girl should be brought up with house hold values, like sitting in home?’

{Image courtesy: freerangestock}

‘Yes, she’s a woman after all.’

‘Which scripture do you refer to, when you say so?’

‘Hain? Log kehte hain ye, shaastra-vaastra maine nahin padhe.’

‘Log!’ He laughed, ‘even today there exists a CLASS of ‘log’ that believes colored people are inferior, women must remain in burqa as they are to produce children only, honor-killing is fine, protesting against our own country in a campus is COOL. If only you had glance at our actual ideologies, you would have understood that men & women are equal. If only you were aware that “शक्ति बिन शिव भी शव हैं”.

The Right Education

______________________________________________

“Vande Matram, Vande Matram……”

Kaivalya experienced absolute contentment, while he gazed at the children singing the national song in full spirit.

‘So Mr. Kaivalya.’ A voice brought him out from his bliss, ‘I see your idea has materialized well.’

‘All thanks to you, Ms. Sama.’ He greeted her with a smile, ‘If it weren’t your persuasion, the madarsa authorities might have rejected my plea.’

‘Well, I am always in for a cause. But tell me; wouldn’t it have been better if you had conduct it within grownups?’

‘You see that earthen pot, Mam. Can you reshape it into a glass?’

‘That’s impossible; after the potter gives raw clay such shapes via drying/firing, it will break but won’t reshape.’

‘Exactly, these tiny tots are like raw clay. If their minds are nurtured with apposite manners & dispositions, like singing of national anthem & song, and pinning the tricolor pin; this all will develop a sense of pride and commitment towards their homeland.’

‘And that’s why you visit schools & religious institutions, for sanskaars?’ She smirked.

‘Indeed Ms. Sama, you see its not religionism, but nationalism.’

‘Utilizing education! An M.B.A. who’s aware of his social responsibilities.’ Sama gestured a salute, ‘JAI HIND!’

Are you a V-----?

_______________________________________

‘See, though we have a family business and you don’t need to work after marriage. But there’s no pressure, if you want you may continue; as long as you can balance it with family.’

Rashmi was relieved to hear that, ‘Thanks for understanding. So, do you have anything else to ask?’ Ansh seemed like a nice guy to her.

‘Well, I like the fact that you are an independent woman; but we also value our traditions. Now you are gonna be our family’s bahu. SO, I just wanted to know….. are you a virgin?’

‘Ahmmm! Didn’t you mention earlier that you had a relationship with some girl?’

‘I am a guy. It's okay for us, but a woman must be clean, character wise.’

‘Okay! It means you have been screwing harlots?’ The sarcasm was clear in her voice.

‘Mind your words….’

‘Or, maybe you never did a “girl”. Maybe, you are a bi’.’ A broad sneer emerged on her face, ‘a guy with diversity, I dig that.’

‘I believe your failure to answer my question is an indication of your character.’

‘And how would you know whether I am being truthful; a broken hymen can be due to non-sexual activity. Chauvinist pigs like you would involve in flings, but will seek chastity in women. I bet you won’t allow your sister to go outside, fearing her vagina might get spoiled. It’s a vagina you caveman, not some character certificate.’

‘You dare…’

‘You may now leave, Ansh. You may keep guessing, whether I am….. or I am not, a V.’

Retired, not from love:

__________________________________________________________

The maid served their tea in the balcony and left.

‘You have achieved everything you have ever dreamt for, Narein! So, what’s next on your agenda.’ She asked as she prepared tea for them.

‘Well, now that I have got everything under the sun.' He glanced at his reflection in the window glass, 'and aged to retirement; all I now yearn, is YOU. I would like to make it up for all those moments that we spent separately, building our lives. I just wanna be with you, my wife.’ He took her hand into his trembling grip, while her eyes gave way to a couple of tears.

Gavya:

_______________________________

‘Tell me Shomesh, what’s the hullabaloo over cow and it's beef? Why it is haraam in you guys?’ She asked while watching the news, ‘Is this vigilantism & killing justified in the name of cow?’

‘It’s all about common sense Sanam, which seems to be absent in the era of “knowledge everywhere”. The sanatan scriptures revere Cow as mother. Obviously it’s figurative, but has some meaning to it.’

‘Then enlighten me, husband; I am all ears.’ She got up and sat in his lap and wrapped her arms around him.

‘A cow is benign in more than one way to mankind. She produces five products: milk, urine, dung, butter & ghee and every product benefits us & the environment in many ways.’

‘Oh please, that is so gross.’ Sanam distanced herself to the other end of the sofa, expressing disgust.

Shomesh smiled, ‘You know why cow dung is coated in outer walls, cause it shields from radiation. Atomic power centers in India and Russia use cow dung. In fact, when we burn cow dung, it balances atmospheric temperature and kills germs in the air.’

‘No kidding!’

‘Yes honey! And the cow-urine that disgusted you can cure many diseases, curable & incurable. Cow’s milk develops brain tissues, improves intelligence.’

‘Is that the reason why you people use mainly cow’s milk and its products to prepare the sweets and other dishes in religious ceremonies.’

‘Yeah dear, now tell me if in this rate the slaughter will continue, won’t milk and related products’ price inflate. I mean what will happen if beef goes off the menu; won’t affect a heck! But the rising prices will certainly devoid the poor from nutrition.’

‘You’re saying as if the country will run out of Cows?’

‘You’re missing the point, "Rising prices". And not every breed of cow has that effect. You know Desi Cow is the only being that has a Surya Ketu Nadi, passing through her backbone. It is believed that this vein absorbs the medicinal essence from the sun. This and many other reasons, why we treat her Holy. Also, you must know, thousands of cows are smuggled every day, in the most inhumane way possible, and the most literate state is too involved; ain't that hypocrisy. The treatment that those innocent animals receive will ruin the mascara of your eyes, so let’s not discuss that. The act of vigilantism cannot be justified by any way, that’s the act of pseudos. But why there’s no uproar over treatment of cows.’

The Suitable Bride:

__________________________

‘Bhai Sahab, we have nurtured our girl in a complete traditional environment; in complete stringent upbringing. You will never hear a single utter from her. You will always find her either in kitchen or household chores.’

‘Wah Trivedi ji! Your daughter is a gau.’

‘Ji bhai sahab.’ He grinned, while his palms remained folded.

‘Doesn't utter a single word, all day!’ Trivesh, immersed in his smartphone, turned to them, ‘Papa! I wonder whether you are looking for a life partner for brother, or a puppet…. Slave fits better though.’ He gave a sneer to both.

‘What do you mean, Trivesh.’ His brows narrowed.

‘Leave it.’ He got up to leave, ‘the problem’s with the centuries of oppressed mindset, that still inhibits us to think right; which turned a woman from ardhangini, to a mere daasi.’

Dress Code

“And today, our Prime Minister met the German Chancellor. While the opposition pronounces it PM’s another tour; several contracts & agreements signed between the delegations of both countries, indicate the strengthening ties, heralding a new dawn!”

‘I must admit it; this man has definitely worked on our nation’s branding, changing perceptions!’
‘Wow Mom! You seemed to have developed a liking for our dude.’
‘Oh!’ Her face turned red, ‘What rubbish. It’s about our country, that’s it. There, another news breaking.’
“Meanwhile! A Bollywood actress on her promotional tour met our PM. Here’s the complete story….”
‘This girl’s my goddess! She’s so cool na mom?’
‘Now there, why am I not surprised? Any pretty face that garners overnight sensation is your idol. A real icon represents strength and endurance that comes over years and sometimes decades of labor.’ She frowned.
‘Ok Mom cool down!’ her eyes widened in astonishment, ‘We can deal with this success mantra subject some other time. What’s annoying you in actual?’
‘Just see her wearing, legs exposed. Is this how you represent our country? You are meeting in person with the PM, where’s the decorum?’

{Image: polyvore.com}

‘First thing first! Dressing must never be a criterion to judge a person.' She rose, 'Second, she’s not a diplomat, nor she was in Germany for political reasons. Instead, I appreciate her for visiting our PM out of blues. Don’t you see goodness in that?’
‘But Beta….’
‘Have you researched our scriptures enough to claim her dressing as a sign of sluttiness. You once taught me that it’s our sanskaar that matter, and now you judge a woman for her dressing? That’s not you' She looked her in the eye, 'but centuries of oppression speaking, mother. As we failed to realize our heritage, our actual values.’

Jingle all the way

“Hurry, we must make it soon, else they will catch us” Jacob was running restlessly.
“Wait! I am not an athlete, gimme a moment” Mishka stopped him, breathing heavily.

“Look, it was your idea; we have got the stuff, now we must deliver it to them. If father founds us, we are surely gone then.”

“Look, there’s a teddy bear lying there in the lane, good we got stopped here. She had it on her wish list you see.” she chuckled.

“We barely stopped for a minute and I am freezing, the merits of running are over, brrrrr.”

“Ha ha ha! poor you. Let’s go now, they are just two blocks away, it won’t take us long. We will deliver the stuff to them and return. Our fathers will never know.” They started running again.

“Yeah right, don’t know how I always get into your stupid plans. Look, there they are.”

Mila and Ronan were just like other street children, orphan and homeless. Their eyes twinkled when they saw Mishka.

“Here you go guys, MERRY CHRISTMAS!” Mishka shouted in a gala mood. Daughter of a rich dad, her heart was a pure gold; she befriended with both kids just a week ago and convinced Jacob to donate their gifts to both poor children. She and Jacob gave all their gifts to them, including the teddy they recently found.

“Thank you so much guys, you really made our day” said Ronan and Jones” it’s so nice of you, you both brought every single gift we wished since we were….I don’t even remember since when.”

“Just enjoy your gifts; here, I got the cake mommy made for me. I have already got enough gifts with me; wish Santa had gifted me personally, every year I try to wake but fall asleep and then he drops whatever gift I wish for.”

“Okay, we must leave else our parents will come looking for us.” Jacob said, waving goodbye to both.

They turned back towards their homes, but Mishka was sad, her wish to see Santa was not granted yet, the only thing she actually wished this year.

“Cheer up Mishi, there’s no Santa okay; it is our parents who arrange these gifts for us.” Jacob tried to cheer her.

There was dead silence in the street, they continued with their walk,. Suddenly, a gust of wind astounded them. They looked up in the air, and their jaw dropped, a flying sleigh with reindeers attached to it arrived and halted. A giant figure appeared ”Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas children!” This was Mishka’s moment and she was the happiest child in the world.

Three words:

____________________________

'Marriages are made in heaven'; their affection & compatibility verified the saying. The whole world could see, how deep they were into each other. And the news of a new life augmented the merriment in their lives.

“My dear wife! Nothing more now I seek or aspire from life’ he pecked a kiss on her forehead, ‘When I will be back from abroad, I will see that our son gets all my time.’

Weathers passed and the awaited day arrived.

‘Congratulations husband, you're promoted to fathership. Our girl resembles you totally, especially her eyes, where I delve into for hours. So now come back soon, can’t wait to see you.’ She messaged him.

She waited for an hour anticipating his revert. Finally her cellphone’s message tone clanged. Her fingers made no delay in opening the messenger. It was his message where he compiled all his feelings in three words.

Those three words that started with ‘T’ were enough to wreck her life, shattering her dreams of a pleasant future.

A day not so far:

_________________________________

They knocked at the door hesitantly.

‘Please come in.’ a female voice answered.

They entered the room, closing the door carefully. He helped her wife to the chair, holding her hands.

‘Mr. & Mrs.…..’ she glanced at the application form closely, ‘Naadkarni.’

‘Yes Mam.’ They said in unison, gently; posing a smile.

‘Let me first congratulate you for choosing city’s prime & eminent school. Your child is certainly in the best hands where we will shape our pupils’ future in concord with their dispositions & aspirations. We believe in providing the environment where the tiny tots will fly with their imagination. In our tutelage, the naive minds will evolve towards the right direction, towards conviction.’

‘Yeah yeah, the hypocritical speech’ He thought, ‘Absolutely Mam!’ An admitting grin followed, ‘any directives for us as parents.’

‘Not much really, we don’t believe in enforcement. Just a few things, we will provide guidelines for child’s education; diet plan; attiring etc. for his all round personality development. Therefore, it will be our request to make the arrangements from our affiliates only.’ She donned a broad smile.

‘Certainly Mam!’ the mother nodded in agreement, ‘along came the demands’ she brooded.

‘Thanks for understanding. Now the most important question’ she looked at her, ‘when’s the due date?’

Emptiness

________________________________________________

She cuddled her beloved’s shirt tightly. His scent used to refresh her morning while he was away, followed by their son’s cackles and capering.

‘Azim! Where are you son? Come to mommy now, we will play ha……’ She stopped, recalling, that they were never gonna be there for her. The chemical attacks that took her family away, endowed her with new companions; tears & loneliness.

Allegiance:

_______________________________

‘Just a few steps Rohini. We are almost there.’

‘Damn you Dhiren! The world goes Vrindavan on Holi…’She gasped, ‘and we are here, at this unknown hill. We are not young anymore, do take that into notice.’

‘Vrindavan’s cliché. Just try to observe the serenity here. No shouts and thankfully no pouts.’ He smirked.

‘Okay now pause! I need some air, before we move further.’

‘Yeah let’s relax here for a while. We have come long for Jagannath, let him now wait.’

They sat silently at the stairs, reveling the scenery. He preferred staring at infinity. While her gaze remained at him; beholding his strands of hair, waving with the breeze. She clasped her hand with his and rested her head on his shoulder, relaxing her eyes. A drop on her hand impeded the repose. She looked at him, it belonged his eyes.

‘What happened, Dhiren?’

‘Nothing, while here I tried to distract my mind from the hullabaloo; it diverted, there again.’

‘You’ve served the army, your country with pride and honor; let not that nonsense sway you.’

‘I wasn’t. But now I wonder what was I then; a proud army man, a patriot, a fighter….’ His voice choked for a second, ‘Or rather a rapist, murderer, a suppresser. While all those years I served my nation, our men are; I never realized we are being depicted in such way. It aches my heart Rohini, when a young innocent girl inclines towards the anarchists without reasoning the situations; politicians standing with “young student leaders” who actually advocate separatism, WHY?’

‘The world is mystical in its own ways my child. Calm yourself, you have done your karma, let people decide what’s right, and if they choose the evil, why do you cry upon it. The karma shall speak, not us. Here have this prasdam, BAM BHOLE.’

A hermit what they figured was coming downwards, towards them. Astonished as there seemed no one else few minutes earlier, they stayed cautious.

‘In the times of Holi, your Shiv chanting indicates you’re not out of Shivratri hangover yet.’

‘I believe in one God! He’s Ram in Dusshehra, Krishn in Holi and Shiv in Shivratri. Just consider Shiv is here to worship his Jagannath here in Holi.’

‘So you’re Shiv?’ He tried to mock him.

‘अहम् ब्रह्मास्मि, I am in him, he’s in me; that’s the ultimate truth, ain’t that?’

‘Guy’s gotta point Dhiren, especially when he has awed you.’

‘Indeed dear. Now, take this prasadam, it will relieve you from weariness, JAI JAGANNATH.'

The prasadam actually worked, his all agonies vanished, ‘Incredible, this is just awesome, is it some ‘herbalacious’ magic Ba..’ He turned to him, but to their wonder, no one was there, he was gone.

‘Well! May be it was him, to clear your dilemma.’

‘Yeah, like he said ‘अहम् ब्रह्मास्मि’.

Forever Valentine

‘Hang on, Sanchi’ their hands were clasped tightly. His acrophobia didn’t let him open his eyes, but the fear reflected with his trembling hands. The accident they met wounded them badly; ending up hanging at the edge of the cliff, ‘We will pass this.’

‘Its okay honey’ the grip was loosening, ‘I don’t think I would be able to hold for longer.’

‘NO! No please don’t say that’ those closed eyes couldn’t hide the tears, ‘See I can’t do it without you. Please, please, please don’t say that, I will die without you.’

‘I am never gonna leave you Vicky. Now, open your eyes so I can see you, to my heart’s content.’ She tried her best to sound serene.

He knew he was going to lose her. Yet he opened his eyes, for her. He tried not looking at the abyss, but her face. His tears flowed, into her eyes and then, through her eyes, ‘I Love You, Vicky.’ A teardrop rolled down her eye.

‘I will never forget you Sanchi! You are my world and will be, for eternity.’

‘AND Cut! Excellent shot guys. You nailed the emotions. Rohan, Shagun you both are the next best thing of bollywood, take it from me.’ Director called the day.

‘That was brilliant Shagun. I was, mesmerized.’

‘Not as charismatic as you, Rohan.’ They were immersed in each other. The scene was over, but to everyone’s incognizance, a love-story had sparked.
